Filarski, D.H.W. Filarski, Dirk Filarski born 1885-1964

Dirk Filarski (1885-1964) was one of the major exponents of the Dutch expressionist school of painting which had it\'s most important representation in what is known as the Bergense School. Not only did Filarski spend much of his working life in and around the small North Holland village of Bergen but he also spent two periods of time between 1912 and 1917 in Switzerland. Renée Smithuis, a former art dealer and one of the Netherlands experts on this period of painting, has produced the first major study of Filarski\'s work including the Swiss periods which she considers to be the high point of his work. She also portrays the painter in relationship to the other artists who made-up the Bergense School.
