Description

Dunes in the winter by Schoorl, Dekker, Hendricus Nicolaas (Henk) Dekker was born in Gouda in 1897. He later lived and worked in The Hague. He also died here in 1974. Henk Dekker mainly formed himself. He did receive instructions from H.J. van der Weele and painted, drew and painted in naturalistic style, harbor views, marines and beach and dune views, along Dutch art and along the Mediterranean near Morocco, Brittany, Belgium, England and Sweden. He was a member of the Dutch Art Circle and taught at Cor van Heusden in Rotterdam. In the beginning, Henk Dekker linked his career as a painter to employment with the Municipal Energy Company. He exhibited frequently at Pulchri in The Hague and on various occasions in a collective context with the Dutch Art Circle of which he was a member and has held a board position as treasurer for some time. His interest in marine painting was intensively shaped by his many trips with coasters and pilot boats. During these sea voyages he laid the foundation for many of his works. Works by Henk Dekker can be found in all parts of the world. He is particularly well-known in Belgium; he has often exhibited by invitation in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Liège and St. Niklaas. His work also received great interest in the US. At an older age Henk Dekker could often be found in places where the whims of nature show their best: on the boulevards and piers along the North Sea, including Scheveningen and Hoek van Holland, the South Holland and Zeeland islands. He would like to draw the scarce, picturesque city ports along waterfront.
